Blog 17: Surrender or Fail
Greetings and welcome to the first day of fries across America! It is a bright sunny morning here in Austin, Texas where I have arrived. The food truck and I will be partnering up here in a few moments and then the tour begins. Tonight is Houston!
Keep Texas weird! That is the motto of Austin, Texas and by gosh it totally lives up to it. Love this town. Great people, awesome mexican food and a great way to start off a trip. We have seen the sites. Walking around the locals, I’ve got to say that I’ve never seen a city which prides itself on personality so much; being individual, standing out, being unique. This is a perfect place for me to begin my Fries Across America trip. Because frankly you’ve got to be a little off kilter to get into something like this. You’ve have to enjoy seeing people laugh and having fun yourself. I guess it’s why I got into this. I just view the world a little differently, a little better, a little more fun.
So a bit more about Austin, Texas. Austin, Texas is of course home to University of Texas, Texas Longhorns football, (a team that should be better, and hopefully will be better, for these guys. Frankly I don’t care, but good for them). University Texas is about more, a lot more, it’s a great campus, it’s a huge campus, it is a massive number of people. it’s a very pretty campus too. As an old dude you can’t help but just be struck by “holy crud, was I ever that young and small and hustling to Com 101 class like my life depended upon it? If that was my 19-year-old self I would simply say, “You are 20, short of pregnancy and STDs, there is almost nothing you can’t undo. Live!”
I want to start my blogs off on the right note, and want to make sure that people don’t try pigeonhole me into one convenient mental group or another. So understand, above, my telling 20-year-olds to live; I mean live, embrace life! If you’re going to be religious, then be religous. Go to church, get involved with campus Crusade, do it all! If you’re going to be an artist then soak yourself in paint, fear no statement, shock and amaze yourself. If your going to be a doctor and you have to discipline yourself, then schedule some time to have some fun and do it! Old people who didn’t live, look back with regret and look forward with either worry or the sad attempts to recapture youth. Old people who had fun and sucked the marrow out of life, look back and smile and look forward with the same vigor.
But I digress. As far as Austin goes, I embraced it’s heart and went out to some of the fifteen million live music venues. This is a town with music roots. If you’re somebody who loves live shows, this is a must visit town; sixth street and much more Rock!
So how does all this tie into French Fry Heaven? because this is an awesome, unique business, jammed full of fun. I am all about living life and finding FFH family members who believe the same and want to live life unbridled. How far would you go to promote your own business? It’s yours, there had better be no limits! Join me on The Tour!
