The dark is scary and exciting. Who can forget being a kid in the dark and all the thoughts that ran through your head of the monsters that lurked in every hidden corner. The smallest sound could be a demon waiting to swallow you whole. So what does this have to do with entrepreneurship? Everything.
When you work for someone you know what your day brings. You don’t worry about paying the company’s bills, if your product has a place in the market or if your employees can manage a whole area by themselves. Entrepreneurship or franchise ownership, even one as great as French Fry Heaven, can be scary. It’s all you. Even one like French Fry Heaven, which has been uber successful all over the country, is ultimately completely on your shoulders. The success or failure depends on you and that is scary.
Franchising mitigates some of this by jumping into a proven concept with great systems, such as French Fry Heaven, but there is no eliminating all of the shadows. Do you have the right location, are you up to the hours of work, are you willing to do the marketing necessary? The initial thrill of opening your own business and that grand opening pop, quickly give way to the day to day battle for success and profit. Yikes!
So how can you limit the terror? Do you homework upfront. Interview other franchisees, talk to owners of businesses in your field, invest in professional support, make sure you are fully prepared for running your business full bore. Half measures will avail you nothing. You are either all in or stay on the bench.
So why do it at all? Why not just stay with your dull little 9-5 that provides just enough of a trickle of money to afford the kids school, a minivan and a yearly vacation squeezed into what’s left of your company vacation days. Why? Because you want and deserve to be unlimited. You deserve to come out of the shadow existence of scrapping by. You deserve to have no limits on your income. Your family should have the best, not just what you can eek out of your paycheck. You work too hard for what you make to make ten times more for your employer. Your work ethic should provide you and yours everything. This is why you will brave the Zipline to hell in the dark and come out the other side in the sunshine of massive achievement and reward!
